Norfolk Southern Corporation is a U.S. rail transportation company whose subsidiaries move raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods across the United States. Its freight mix includes agriculture and consumer products such as grains, fertilizers, food products, lumber, paper products, beverages, and canned goods; chemicals and energy-related cargoes including petroleum products, plastics, and natural gas liquids; metals and construction materials; automotive shipments; and coal. The company also handles overseas freight through Atlantic and Gulf Coast ports and operates an intermodal network. Incorporated in 1980, Norfolk Southern is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Its common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol NSC.
