Southern Company is a U.S. electric utility company whose common stock trades on the NYSE under the symbol SO. Through its subsidiaries, the company sells electricity to retail and wholesale customers and provides energy-related products and services in natural gas choice markets. Its operations also include developing, constructing, acquiring, owning, operating, and managing power generation assets and battery energy storage projects, as well as supplying electricity at market-based rates in wholesale markets. Southern Company also deploys microgrids for commercial, industrial, governmental, and utility customers. In addition, the company is engaged in natural gas distribution in Illinois, Georgia, Virginia, and Tennessee, provides energy and resilience solutions, and makes investments in telecommunications. Founded in 1945, Southern Company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
