Companhia Paranaense de Energia, or Copel, is a Brazilian power company whose ADR is listed on the NYSE under the symbol ELPC. The depositary receipt represents the company’s common stock. Through its subsidiaries, Copel is involved in electricity research, planning, construction, generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization in Brazil. Its operations are organized into three main segments: generation and transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electric energy. The company produces power from hydroelectric and wind sources and also builds, operates, and maintains substations and transmission lines. Founded in 1954 and headquartered in Curitiba, Brazil, Copel was previously known as Companhia Paranaense de Energia Elétrica before adopting its current name in 1979.
