Duke Energy Corporation is an NYSE-listed common stock representing ownership in Duke Energy Corporation, a U.S. energy company headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. Through its subsidiaries, the company operates in electric utilities and gas utilities infrastructure. Its electric segment generates, transmits, distributes, and sells electricity across the Southeast and Midwest, using a mix of coal, hydroelectric, natural gas, oil, renewable, and nuclear resources, and also supplies wholesale power to municipalities, electric cooperatives, and other load-serving entities. The gas segment distributes natural gas to residential, commercial, industrial, and power generation customers and invests in pipeline transmission, renewable natural gas projects, and gas storage facilities. The company was founded in 1904 and adopted its current name in April 2006.
