Southern Copper Corporation is a materials company engaged in the mining, exploration, smelting, and refining of copper and other minerals across Mexico, the United States, Peru, Brazil, Chile, and other parts of the Americas. Its operations cover the full production chain, including copper ore mining and milling, concentrate production, smelting, anode and cathode refining, and the production of byproducts such as molybdenum concentrates, sulfuric acid, silver, gold, zinc, and lead. The company’s major assets include the Toquepala and Cuajone operations in Peru, La Caridad and Buenavista in Mexico, along with related concentrator, smelter, refinery, rod plant, and SX-EW facilities. Founded in 1952 and based in Phoenix, Arizona, Southern Copper Corporation changed its name from Southern Peru Copper Corp. in 1996 and operates as a subsidiary of Americas Mining Corporation. Its common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SCCO.
