Consumer Portfolio Services, Inc. is a U.S. specialty finance company focused on purchasing and servicing retail automobile contracts. Through contracts originated by franchised automobile dealers and selected independent dealers, the company provides indirect financing for buyers of new and used cars, light trucks, and passenger vans, including customers with limited credit histories or prior credit issues. It also acts as an alternative funding source for dealers when financing is not readily available from banks, credit unions, or captive finance companies. In addition to its core auto contract business, Consumer Portfolio Services acquires installment purchase contracts in merger and acquisition transactions and purchases a small amount of vehicle purchase money loans from unrelated lenders. The company services its automobile contracts through branches in California, Nevada, Virginia, Florida, and Illinois. Incorporated in 1991, it is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, and its common stock trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker CPSS.
